Trend: Summer Cool

Monochrome and stone inspire this cold Summer trend. That and the fact that there's still no sign of sun here up North. Since attending Chelsea Flower Show last month on behalf of Trend Bible, I've opened my eyes to more indoor-out styles that signify how items of the home are now being taken outdoors for a modern update of the garden. The black and white Pot Cradles by South Korean design studio HEAN are soft hanging pouches and offer a minimal alternative to plant cluttered shelves and deskspace in the home, but could also be used as a decorative garden feature, for vertical plantations.

Cheap concrete is your grey base for a minimal patio, where the only decoration is the shadow play from exotic leaves. Combined with fresh white, deep lush greenery and black metals, this trend is the ultimate Summer Cool, and there's no flowers allowed. With geometric pin legs, this black Pedrera perforated Gubi floor lamp reminds me of macrame hanging rope planters (which everyone is crazy for at the moment). And even when empty, the Pot Cradle plant bags are basic, bold and almost like vertical flags; I could imagine them being lifted lightly by the wind.

Enhancing the colour palette slightly, deep greens combine with a hint of aqua keeping the trend cool but with more of a summer feel. Copper continues to be a popular choice for decorative features of the home, so it would be no surprise to see the use of warm metallics in outdoor living spaces. Paired with stone neutrals and tealy greens, it adds variety to the colour palette but doesn't detract from this fresh and breezy, cool Summer.
